As to an international standard for qualification or accreditation I would imagine all should be similar and competencies-based but there should be variation by context/country too.ProfHastingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17961738273216388538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8945427651211387206.post-10436290441299447362016-03-22T10:42:37.570+00:002016-03-22T10:42:37.570+00:00Re: PBS is just about Psychology or Psychologists....Re: PBS is just about Psychology or Psychologists. In Australia the National Disability Insurance Scheme has decided that only Psychologists, Occupational Therapists or Social Workers are able to be funded to provide PBS. No teachers, no Speech Pathologists or LD Nurses. There are discussions about the need for an agreed PBS qualification & in some areas a push for the BCBA.
Is there a different approach based on competencies (and the PBS academy work) or on a review of work completed meeting the evidence base or do you think there needs to be a PBS qualification that is recognised worldwide?Tom Tuttonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8945427651211387206.post-51204192490406719182016-03-20T18:10:17.037+00:002016-03-20T18:10:17.037+00:00Many thanks for adding this comment Luke. You'...Many thanks for adding this comment Luke. You're right! I was responding to the particular point I'd heard being made as criticism. But you're right that our underlying approach is that PBS competencies are for everyone no matter what professional background and also where someone has no health or social care professional qualification. With that in mind, the PBS Academy will very soon also release a resource for those who deliver PBS day-to-day (could be called direct support workers, but also many other things such as mediators). This is very much designed to help support workers work with their manager/supervisor to evidence their PBS competencies against the competencies framework. So, it is not another guide to PBS for support workers but a tool to help them demonstrate their often hard-one skills and keep the evidence in a clear portfolio.ProfHastingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17961738273216388538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8945427651211387206.post-89422762087709942312016-03-19T18:51:13.467+00:002016-03-19T18:51:13.467+00:00Luke Watts.
Thank you for the wonderful Blog Ric...Luke Watts.

Thank you for the wonderful Blog Richard and always wonderful to read your works. This is a tool I will use with my support staff to continue the upskilling of them. I did have one point about psychologists section - you make a very good point. But surely, competency in PBS is intended to be for everyone, managers of services, services themselves (culture), the workforce/mediators etc. I concur that SALT, OT etc being PBS competent is vital - but equally, I view the mediators and others as a vital part of effective delivery. I could not see reference to the key skills of mediators (I think this is from the same Journal) and would always (as a service manager), be very eager to engage my workforce/mediators as being PBS competent and aware.
